Brain Surgery #2

Juliette’s second brain surgery was a success! On March 4 Juliette endured a 4+ brain surgery to remove a small tumor from the front of her brainstem. The surgeon operated via an incision behind Juliette’s right ear in order to more easily access the lesion and reduce the risk of side effects. The surgeon was able to resect the entire tumor and confirm that there were no additional tumors in the area.

We are still in awe of how well Juliette has recovered. When they brought us to her in the PICU we discovered a cheerful Juliette calmly explaining the Trolls movie to a small team of doctors. Twenty-four hours later we were on our way home. We are elated that she has already overcome her minor deficits following surgery; she is running, climbing, swallowing, and jumping (though too much jumping gives her a headache).

There was enough tumor for the two drug screens we were evaluating. When we receive the results we will review with our oncologist.
